Description

Charlotte:A Royal at War (aka Léif Lëtzebuerger) Special Edition

The remarkable true story of one woman and her government’s pursuit of freedom for their country - against the brutal occupation by Hitler’s Third Reich. This feature-length documentary film now available on DVD in this special-edition boxset, is the previously untold account of Charlotte of Luxembourg - a wife; mother of six children and head of state of the tiny duchy of Luxembourg. Charlotte became a Royal propagandist in pearls who inspired a nation through the power of radio, reaching her people in their darkest hour. The film reveals a powerful truth: ordinary people will endure hardship, imprisonment, even death, if they have someone to believe in, to keep their hopes alive. The feature length documentary combines vivid eyewitness testimony with dramatic reconstruction and unique, previously unseen, colour archive. The DVD contains the film in 3 feature-length versions on one disc: English (narrator, Geraldine James) Luxembourgish (Sascha Ley) French (Stephane Bern) Bonus "extras" include exclusive footage of Curtis Roosevelt meeting Grand-Duke Jean at Fischbach Castle - and additional interview clips not featured in the main theatrical release of the film. Charlotte: A Royal at War had its international Royal premiere at BAFTA, London, in Autumn 2008. "A fascinating and comprehensively researched film that unveils new facts and archive material that even manages to surprise many Luxembourgers." (352-Luxembourg News) "Léif Lëtzebuerger" est aussi un petit bijou esthétique...fait avec élégance et intelligence." (D’ Lëtzebuerger Land)

This film, Charlotte, a Royal at War, was exquisitly made and produced and is appropriate for all ages. This is a story of one woman, who, motivated by her love for her fellow countrymen and her love of God, saved her country from being taken over by the brutal nazi regime. Using her power and influence to ensure freedom for her country, she worked tirelessly in the UK and in America to influence these powerful nations to help and support Luxembourg. This story is told by the film makers with humility and grace and moves seemlessly between live interviews and television footage. It is an uplifting, if somewhat sobering, story of how one person, with conviction and with God's help, can make a difference in this world. It is a beautiful story, and one well worth having in your dvd library...
